How to Get the Most Out of Your Free Week at Corsair BJJ

A free week pass is useful only if you treat it like real training, not a single tour of the building. Adults and parents from Elgin, Bastrop, Manor, and east of Austin often claim the pass, then show up once, feel awkward, and leave with more questions than answers. You can do better than that.

Corsair BJJ runs Adult and Kids Gi and No Gi BJJ plus Muay Thai/kickboxing at 127 Roy Davis Rd Suite 2D in Elgin. The free week exists so you can feel the room, the coaching, and your own recovery before you decide. Here is how to use those days well.

Claim it, then open the schedule

Start on the contact page and claim the free week. Then open the live schedule and pick classes you can actually attend. Do not invent a perfect week in your head. Match the calendar you already have: work, kids, commute, sleep.

Gi and no-gi both count. Kickboxing stands on its own if that is what you came for. If you are unsure which lane to start in, tell a coach when you walk in. You do not need a forever plan on day one.

Aim for more than one class

One class answers almost nothing. Two or three give you a fair read. You learn how warm-ups feel, how partners treat beginners, and whether you can recover enough to come back the next day. If your week only allows two sessions, take both. Consistency during the trial beats one perfect hero class.

Show up a few minutes early each time. Tell someone it is your free week and that you are new. They would rather point you at a sensible class than watch you guess from the doorway.

Pack light and ask early

You do not need a full gear haul to start. Athletic shorts and a fitted shirt or rashguard work for no-gi. If you want to try gi, ask about a loaner for early visits before you buy. Bring water. Leave shoes and jewelry off the mats. Trim nails.

If you already own a gi, gloves, or wraps, bring them. If you do not, ask the desk or a coach what makes sense for the class you picked. Buying everything on day one is optional, not required.

Treat live training like practice

When class moves into live rounds, remember you are there to learn, not to win a free week. Tap early when you are stuck. Breathe. Focus on one or two details per session. Ask when a movement is unclear. Say something if it hurts in a bad way.

The room runs on respect. Hard rounds happen. Ego does not get rewarded. That is true for adults and for kids classes under the same roof.

Talk to the people coaching

Instruction comes from coaches who train here, including Micah Scarbrough, Trey Mundine, Jason "Jersey" DeCesari, Seth Louey, Diego Alvarez, and Carter Alcazar. Use the free week to ask plain questions: which class fits a beginner, how often to train at first, whether to add kickboxing later, how kids classes are structured.

You will get clearer answers in person than from a review thread. Write down one thing that clicked and one thing that confused you after each class so the next visit starts sharper.

Decide with real information

By the end of the week you should know whether the drive to Suite 2D fits your life, whether the coaching makes sense to you, and whether you want Gi, No Gi, kids classes, kickboxing, or a mix. That is the point of the pass: less guessing, more data.

Corsair's aim still holds: Live Healthy, Build Confidence & Learn Self-Defense. A free week is how you test that in the room instead of only on the website.

How to start

Claim your free week, check the schedule, and walk into Suite 2D ready to train more than once. Tell a coach you are new. Then decide with what you felt on the mats.
